I love the music, and I own some albums…but why support the band?

Julean Rai has been writing, recording and performing since 1995, usually from city-to-city and now from country-to-country.  Nowadays, these albums and live performances have been making the rounds.  Last year, “Muse Tree”, “Alexandria, Falling”, and “Here.” enjoyed more than 200,000 downloads combined, purely on Net traffic, iTunes, and downloaded torrents.  Today, Julean Rai and his band live from hand-sold CDs and live show performances.  While Julean and the band love the idea that people are getting access to his music, this doesn’t leave much to continue recording and existing doing what he loves to do, and that’s music.

In short, Julean Rai prefers this model: people who love his music should support him and his music any way they can; and if they can’t, well then they should just enjoy the music and get others to enjoy it, too.  Having his fans and listeners contribute what they can towards the next album or the project as a whole is simply his way of staying his business while letting those who do get ahold of his music continue to enjoy it.  The music itself should never have been ‘for sale’ in the first place.

Julean Rai currently has seven (7) unrecorded albums of about 76 songs, including his most recent songcrafts, and he would like the listeners help and support to record, release, and distribute these as quickly as possible.

Listeners who contribute are supporting these upcoming album projects as well as the band’s expenses as a whole, including travel, equipment, copyrights, publishing, distribution, and living.  By supporting, listeners are allowing Julean Rai to do what he loves most, most of the time.

Here is the list of unrecorded projects, including the current push:

Secrets and Stains (Vol. III) (see track listing)
Leaving Gomorrah (Vol. IV) (see track listing)
Effortless (Vol. V) (see track listing)
New York State (Vol. VI) (see track listing)
Heaven, for Awhile (Vol, VII) (see track listing)
The Anastasia Continuum (Acoustic/Electronic Instrumental EP) (see track listing)
Salvaged Dementia (current) (see track listing)

Each album project has an expected budget of $10,000, so your contributions of any size or amount helps us reach our goal of completing the outstanding album projects.

With your contribution of any amount, you will receive a web link and listing on our donation wall, mention in the liner notes, and *one free copy* of the finished physical CD + MP3s for every $15.00 you donate.  Each donation will also receive a free download of each of the other seven (7) albums, with download links sent to the same PayPal address.  Donations above $100.00 will also be receiving 0.2% of all profits from sales of the album — iTunes, Rhapsody and online sales, offline and concert sales, and physical distribution sales — for the lifetime of it’s distribution.  Every $100.00 donation multiplies returns up to $10,000 (e.g., $200.00 is 0.4%, $500.00 is 1%, and so forth).  That means for contributions of this size, every 100,000 album sales (physical, concert sales or digital) returns your donation over 10 times.

Any contribution over $5 will receive a free download of one of the albums from the catalog; each $5 is a another album.  So that means that $10 is two albums, $20 is four albums, and $50 puts the entire catalog on your hard drive. When making your donation, specify which album you would like to download and we will send each contributor a link to the music.

As you can see, with any small contribution you help us reach our goal and continue to provide Julean Rai’s music, no matter how…exactly…you came across it.

You can use the form on the left to make a contribution to the project as a whole (all albums and the band), or visit this page to make a contribution to the next serious project, “Secrets and Stains” (Vol. III).

You can also download some free music from this site to get “better acquainted” with Julean Rai and his music:
“Live at the Lizard King” (First Set Only): http://ow.ly/papo
“Muse Tree” (LP)(2007): http://ow.ly/hjx0

If we are able to reach our goal of $10,000 for the recording of “Secrets and Stains” we will set the first three albums (Vol. 1 “Muse Tree, Vol. 2 “Here.”, and the “Alexandria, Falling” EP free, as well as the three live show LPs and the four early demo recordings from as far back as 2001.

The dawn of the digital age and digital downloads changes everything.  As far the Julean and the Rai outfit is concerned, you can forget about “album sales” … let the listeners dictate what they want by directly supporting the band.  Let those who can’t, enjoy without being bothered.
